The event attracts thousands of people to the town each year, gathering on the cliffs and the beach to watch the display over the pier.

Town mayor Pat West said: “It was a perfect day for the display and just the start we wanted for Cromer in 2023.

“We saw a fantastic turnout with thousands of people travelling into Cromer, and our pubs, cafés and other eateries reporting it was one of their busiest days for some considerable time.”

Pat is also chairman of the New Year’s Day Fireworks Committee and he said the display – put on by Titanium Fireworks – had been hailed as one of the best.

“It was a wonderful display and looked spectacular on the pier. We have managed to raise £104,000 for local charities since this started in 2000 and we hope to continue that for years to come, so I am grateful to everyone for their continued support and all of our volunteers.”
