2026 comes in with a bang
With Christmas and New Year swims cancelled because of the weather, fireworks fans were keeping a close eye on the forecast ahead of the traditional New Year’s Day display.
Luckily the winds held off, and although it was bitterly cold, thousands of spectators wrapped up warmly to enjoy the spectacle.
And with a churning sea below the pyrotechnics, it was a dramatic show.
The grand finale to a day of festive fun in the town is organised by the town council and run by Titanium Fireworks, which also creates the massive display in London on New Year’s Eve.
The free event, believed to be the only display in the UK launched from a pier, was first held to mark the Millennium and raises money for good causes.
Grants have so far topped more than £100,000.
