Sheringham’s Oddfellows Hall is looking for a new community group to run it after the closure at the end of next month of the Upcher Partnership.

The partnership, which has faced financial difficulties since its set-up finding was withdrawn, is handing the building over to North Norfolk District Council from the start of the new financial year.

The council will then look for a local group to take over the running of the hall.

Upcher’s Janet Farrow said the partnership has been waiting to hear whether it had been successful in securing Lottery funding top continue but it had been unsuccessful.

“Although they believed there was a need for us to in the town they did not think the benefits would be for enough people,” she said.

The Upcher Partnership took over the hall in 2009, from Sheringham Plus Community Partnership after agreeing to a lease with North Norfolk District Council with the sole purpose of bringing the hall back into community use.

The hall is used regularly by Slimming World, Sing for Joy, the Lobster Potties and the Shantymen, as well as proving space for regular police SNAP meetings and North Norfolk Business Forum.

Peter Battrick, from North Norfolk District Council, said they were hoping a community group would come forward to take over the running of the hall but they would not be making any decisions until the end of March.

Anyone interested should contact North Norfolk District Council directly.
