A popular annual garage sale has given a welcome boost to a Thorpe-based dementia support group.

Forty-one houses across the whole of Dussindale took part in the event in aid of Thorpe Dementia Support Group, which is based at Roxley Hall.

The epicentre was at Fitzmaurice Pavilion where maps and cakes were sold to help raise more money. All the cakes were generously donated by local people and local businesses. These included Little Park Cafe, Thorpe Ferry Cafe, Little Flapjack Company, and many others. “It was a great morning, the weather held, everyone was friendly and some bargains were found!,” said Tracey Cooper, who organised the event for the fourth time.

“Cllr Ian Mackie very generously topped up the total of £967 raised on the day to a nice round figure of £1000. He then very kindly offered to match the £1000 using money from the Ivy Child Trust.

“The money will make a massive difference to both cared for and care-givers and I thank our wonderful community for their support and generosity.”

The dementia support group meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month (10.30am-12.30pm). Call 01603 701048 or email office@thorpestandrew-tc.gov.uk

WELCOME FUNDS: Organiser Tracey Cooper and her husband Gary handed the £1,000 cheque over to Thorpe Mayor Stuart Snelling at Roxley Hall
