There are just a few days to go before the April 8 deadline for North Norfolk residents to signing up to see if they can save money on their gas and electricity bills through the Big Switch and Save campaign.

Launched by North Norfolk District Council at the beginning of March, by April 1, 2,379 residents had registered their interest at .

This is the highest number by some distance of the five Norfolk boroughs and districts involved in the campaign. The website has been set up so residents can submit their details to be included in a “reverse auction” to find the cheapest gas and/or electricity tariff for those householders. Schemes elsewhere in the country have seen residents save an average of £171 per year.

The council is urging all those who have not yet signed up to do so as soon as they can. There’s nothing to lose and possibly a significant amount of money to be gained.

A helpline is available on 0800 0488285. Online applications can be made until April 8.

The council is also making it easier for local residents to finds out more about their own energy consumption with town and parish councils in the district receiving an Energy Box containing information covering a range of topics. Residents can borrow the box to learn about how to reduce their energy consumption, and to find out where they can seek information, advice and funding to improve the energy efficiency.
