The Crab and Lobster weekend festival got off to a rollicking start with the opening concert in the pier pavilion theatre. A very relaxed and friendly atmosphere on what was a wild and windy night. The sea pounding the shore underneath the pier set the scene for the concerts theme which was the sea and fishermen. Olly Day hosted the event in his special way, a blend of cheeky sometimes near the knuckle humour and song, John Connolly kept the audience entertained with his own composition of songs telling tales of trawler-men from Grimsby, he also recited a wonderfully amusing monologue, a very talented performer. A troop of dancers provided an interlude of rhythmic sophistication. Comedy man Nigel”Boy” Sayer with his accordion made the audience laugh, he has a very mobile face , his duet with Olly Day, was one we will never forget, Olly as a cowboy and Nigel as an Indian. The evening concluded by the ever popular Sheringham Shantymen, who were unforgettable and had the audience clapping and stamping their feet. Altogether a most enjoyable evening, may the crab and lobster festival continue and grow for many years to come.
