Filling station plans for Aylsham

Aylsham looks set to finally get a filling station on the edge of town.

The Lindum Group is proposing to submit a planning application for a new petrol filling station and shop on land to the north of Burgh Road in Aylsham. The application will include the demolition and replacement of Aylsham Bathroom and Kitchen Centre, which was destroyed by fire two years ago.

And the group is asking for comments from members of the public before it puts in for planning permission.

The proposed development will include a traditional petrol filling station arrangement with eight dispenser fill locations on four islands under a canopy.

Residents in Aylsham and nearby villages have long been hoping the area would be turned into a filling station with the inclusion of a roundabout at the Burgh Road junction, which has seen several accidents over the last few months.

Sue Lake, Aylsham Town Clerk, said: “The town council has often been approached by residents complaining at the lack of a petrol station in the town. Therefore we welcome this move as not only would it provide a much wanted facility but would also clear one of the most complained about sites in the town, but would like to see the full plans before making any detailed comments.”

The Lindum Group said the proposal would help to meet a real and identifiable shortfall in petrol provision in the local area and in doing so have a positive visual impact on this prominent access into the town.

A public consultation exercise has been designed to inform local residents and interested parties of the proposals and allow them to provide comment and feedback. The group would encourage all feedback on the proposals, both positive and negative as all comments received will be taken into consideration when finalising designs prior to forthcoming planning submission. And comments should be sent to planning@lindumgroup.co.uk before midnight on February 12.
