A brew with a head of steam
A popular heritage railway will be raising a glass to 50 years transporting passengers in style with a special beer brewed just for the occasion.
North Norfolk Railway has teamed up with Attleborough’s Wolf Brewery to produce the ale in honour of its golden anniversary.
Golden Poppy Ale debuted at the annual Rails and Ales event on June 13, 14 and 15. It will now be available in bottles at the line’s stations – Sheringham, Weybourne and Holt – throughout the summer.

The beer was handcrafted by head brewer Will Edwards, who said: “We’ve created an easy drinking golden beer to mark the Poppyline’s 50th anniversary using barley grown and malted locally along with some of the finest aromatic hops.”
The 3.7pc ABV ale has a “citrussy aroma with a biscuity maltiness on the palate and a refreshing lemony finish”.
The distinctive label features a photo of the first train that the NNR ran after gaining a licence in 1975.

General manager Graham Hukins said: “We are delighted that Wolf Brewery are creating this very special beer for us and cannot wait to raise a toast to our five decades of progress with it.”
