A stitch in time for a creative tribute

Knitters and crocheters are being called on to come together for a special creative tribute this autumn.

St Edmund’s Church, Taverham, is preparing an art installation to commemorate Remembrance Day, and the St Edmund’s Art Group hopes local residents will help decorate the church with a sea of handmade poppies.

Whether you knit, crochet, or simply fancy giving it a go, your contribution will help create a powerful display honouring those who gave their lives in service.

And it doesn’t matter if you have no experience or are a beginner as simple instructions are available – and there are lots of members prepared to help.

All poppies, once completed, can be dropped off at the library until October 16.

If you aren’t crafty but would still like to support the project, donations of red or black wool can be left at the library.

“This community artwork is a heartfelt act of remembrance, created stitch by stitch,” said the group’s Caroline Karimi-Ghovanlou. “Every poppy represents gratitude, reflection and the shared spirit of coming together.

“So pick up your needles or hook, join in, and help St Edmund’s Church create something truly meaningful for Remembrance Day 2026.”

Email nkarimighovanlou@gmail.com for copies of the patterns or pop in to Taverham Library, where printed instructions are ready to collect.
