Eaton CNS said a fond farewell to a group of Spanish students who spent just over a week at the school as part of The English Experience Integration Project.

The programme aims to connect overseas and British students through short, immersive visits that combine day-to-day school life with cultural outings.

The visiting students were hosted by local families and matched with a CNS “buddy” of a similar age who accompanied them throughout the school day during the last week of the first half of term.

The arrangement gave the Spanish pupils first-hand experience of British secondary school routines, classes and social life, while CNS students practised language skills and broadened their cultural understanding.

During the half-term break, the group visited a number of Norfolk attractions and took a day trip to London, adding wider context to the classroom exchange. The pupils then returned to CNS for two final days of activities and reflection.

The programme concluded with a farewell celebration, where students shared cakes, wrote thank-you postcards, and spoke about what they had learned.

Two CNS students addressed the group, expressing how much they had enjoyed taking part in the exchange and the strong bonds they had formed with their Spanish ‘buddies’.

Jo Philpott, Headteacher at CNS said: “This was the first time CNS has hosted cultural exchange students, and it was a resounding success. Seeing our students support their visitors and reflect on their shared experiences underlines the positive impact cultural exchange programmes can have on our community.”

Lauren Higginson, Head of Teaching and Integration Project Coordinator at The English Experience Norwich, said: “It was wonderful to see the students sharing their goodbyes at the farewell celebration; many of them had built genuine bonds with their buddies over the course of the project and their feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

“We are extremely grateful for the hard work and dedication that went into planning and delivering this project.

“We truly value our collaboration with schools like CNS and hope the partnership will continue in the future”.
