Organisers of an appeal for donations of laptops and tablets to help students in the Aylsham area study at home have been inundated with offers.

Aylsham Rotary launched the appeal, co-ordinated by Mike Downes, in early January and received offers of around 160 devices in just two weeks. Organisers are currently not seeking any more donations until they have cleared the backlog.

A Rotary spokesman said: “Our local community could not have been more responsive in donating equipment and money or helping sort out the devices we have received.

“We could not have done it without them and are very grateful to them all.
“Moreover, people have also been exceedingly generous in donating money towards the cost of the hard drives and minor repairs.”

Rotary had originally set a target of £500, which was raised to £1,000, but this target has been surpassed, with donations now totalling over £2,700.
As well as individual donations, the appeal has also been helped by a number of companies.

Aylsham Computers has been working as fast as they can to replace the hard disks and installing Windows 10 to enable pupils to access suitable learning platforms and Ultimo Electronics has also offered to help refurbish the devices.

Additionally IT expert Jon Sawyer-Stone has been working hard to clear and make suitable every tablet.

Donations include £1,000 from Aylsham Picture House and £200 from Chimu Software.
