Plans are in place for this year’s Scone Competition at Wroxham Barns on Sunday 28th September. This is the eighth year that this popular event is being held, forming part of the Spire Solicitors Adnams Norfolk Food & Drink Festival.

Scones are big business at Wroxham Barns (the chefs there make over 30,000 a year), but this is a chance for the general public to have a go, as owner Ian Russell explains: “The Scone Competition is great fun and attracts several hundred entries. Baking has captured the nation’s imagination and this contest is a way for baking enthusiasts to show us what they can do. There are five categories – plain, cheese, fruit, freestyle and children’s scones – and entrants simply have to make four scones in the categories of their choice and bring them to Wroxham Barns by 2.30pm on the day. The children’s section, for those aged 12 and under, is for plain scones only, but these can be any shape or size, allowing them to be as creative as they wish.”

The competition is free to enter, with the scones judged by a panel of local journalists and a number of baking-related prizes. Entrants also need to complete an entry form which can be downloaded at:  www.wroxhambarns.co.uk or requested on 01603 783762 or at: info@wroxhambarns.co.uk. Wroxham Barns is on Tunstead Road, Hoveton, Norfolk, NR12 8QU, and is also on Facebook and Twitter.
