One of the most experienced tennis coaches in the country will be heading to Cromer this weekend to set up a new programme of activities at the town’s club.

Chris Cash, an LTA Master Performance Coach and director of FirstPoint Tennis, said he was delighted to be taking responsibility for coaching at the town’s council-owned courts and planned to introduce a range of sessions for players of all ages and abilities.

FirstPoint Tennis runs a number of courts across the country, coaching thousands of adults and young people from the age of 3 to 93.

Chris explained: “I have had a long association with Cromer as I used to bring children here for tennis camps in the summer and I adore this part of the world. “We were approached earlier in the year with a view to running a new wave of coaching programmes and we jumped at the chance.”

Chris has organised an open day on Sunday  (May 19)  from 10am to 4pm for people interested in taking up the sport to come along and have a go.

“It’s a great introduction to the sport for those who have not played before and a chance to improve skills for those people who are already big fans of tennis,” Chris continued.

“The emphasis here is on getting everyone, young and old, involved in sport and having lots of fun. There has never been a better time to start playing tennis, especially with the likes of Andy Murray and Laura Robson leading the way, and it really doesn’t matter if you have never held a racket before as everyone is welcome.”

Programmes will include everything from free clubs for toddlers through to advanced coaching sessions and cardio tennis – a high-intensity workout to boost fitness and quick reactions.

“We really feel that tennis has something for everyone, whether you want to play to a high standard or just recreationally,” said Chris. “There is a huge appetite for tennis in this area so we want to get the whole community involved, including the schools.”
