Attack on cats leaves one dead and one injured

One cat has died and another seriously injured in Aylsham after being wounded by someone who used what vets believe was a knife or blade.

It is thought the attacks took place close to the cats’ home in Hungate Street, Aylsham on Saturday, July 30.

Midnight, a Russian Blue cat returned home at approximately 7am that morning, with a severe limp and bleeding leg. Immediately after, a neighbour frantically alerted the owner that she had found Midnight’s sister Twilight, collapsed and bleeding with slices to her abdomen.

Both cats were rushed to vets where it was discovered that Twilight’s injuries were so severe, her internal organs were exposed.

RSPCA inspector Ben Kirby said: “This is a shocking and horrific attack on two loved pets from the same family. The vets have said that Twilight’s wounds were the worst she had ever seen, the possibility that someone has done this deliberately is unthinkable. The vets decided that the kindest thing to do was to put Twilight to sleep to end her immense suffering.”

Thankfully, vets were able to dress and treat Midnight’s cut to her leg and he is recovering at home following her ordeal, but her injuries are equally as sinister.

Inspector Kirby added: “The vets have said that it looks as though Midnight was deliberately shaved, and her leg deliberately wounded by a sharp blade.

“We are extremely keen to hear from anybody who might be able to lead us to who committed this awful attack on Midnight and Twilight.”
