The fun and frolics of the Aylsham Show are ready to entertain again this Monday, with plenty of new attractions merging with traditional activities.

The show, the largest one day agricultural show in East Anglia, converges on the Blickling estate on August 25, Bank Holiday Monday.

Thousands of people flock to the show from near and far, with the event acting as a meeting point for farmers, horticulturists and livestock keepers from miles around. But it also brings entertainment to the masses, tourists and locals alike, through a wide choice of craft stalls, the busy main ring and entertainment for both children and adults.

Cookery demonstrations, food and farming marquees, flower and art marquees, vintage tractors and machinery, classic cars, military vehicles, trade stands, petticoat lane area, a fun fair and archery all play their crucial part.

A host of competitions will be fought across a range of areas, including food, ponies, sheep, goats and pigs.

The show keeps its strong and vital link with agriculture, thus helping to promote a link between town and country.

This year the main ring will feature a fly past of the Douglas C-47 Dakota, one of the most successful aircraft designs in history. It became one of the world’s most famous military transport aircraft and saw widespread use by the Allies during World War Two and subsequently by air forces and civilian operators worldwide.

As a tactical transport aircraft, the Dakota was used to carry troops and freight, for the air-dropping of supplies and paratroops, for towing gliders and for casualty evacuation.

The Bolddog Lings will also be on hand, returning after a successful 2009 visit and more recent Britain’s Got Talent appearance earlier this year.

The show is organised by a voluntary council of around 40 members. In 2013 an impressive total of £52,750 was donated to local charities and organisations.

Chris Self, who has been a driving force of the show for many years, said: “The final arrangements are now being put in place in order to provide yet another magnificent Aylsham Show.

“It is always the aim of the organising committee to provide excellent family entertainment and this is certainly the case for this the 68th show, with displays  ranging from spell-binding main ring attractions, to working craft displays, livestock and much more.

“We look forward to welcoming you to  the largest one day traditional agricultural show in  East Anglia.
