The Great British Bake off has been a huge phenomena on TV with a huge following and thousands keen to sign up with a chance of taking part.

Now Aylsham is organising its own version, and it’s all for a good cause too.

The Great Aylsham Bake Off will go ahead on Saturday, September 14, with all the ingredients to make it a fun event for all the family.

It’s being held from 9am to noon in Aylsham Market Place but you don’t even have to be there to take part. Bakers can join a “virtual” bake off in their own homes as part of the event.

Sarah Shirtcliff, who has been involved with organisng the event, said: “The Great Aylsham Bake Off is all about having fun in our kitchens, sharing our stories and successes through Facebook and conversations. We want our collective creativity to culminate in a great cake sale in Aylsham Market Place.”

The sale will be raising money for Dravet Syndrome UK a cause close to many locals’ hearts as they support local youngster Rebekah Hughes, who suffers from the illness.

“We would love you to donate and support an enormously important charity supporting families who live and care for others. We also want you to bake. If you live near, get baking on Friday and Saturday morning, share your fun on Facebook,” says Sarah on the group’s Just Giving site.

Enter the fun for a £5 donation, it’s open to all ages.

Donate £5 and a cake on the day to sell or you donate at www.Justgiving/greataylshambakeoff

Find them at Facebook as The Great Aylsham Bake Off. There’s lots of great creations, including some by Rebekah herself.
