A community hub near Hellesdon has enhanced a popular initiative which gives youngsters the chance to take part in play sessions before enjoying a meal with their families.

PLAY TIME: Play equipment and 3G pitches at The Nest.

In response to growing demand for the ‘Play & Eat’ sessions at The Nest, the Community Sports Foundation is moving the programme to an online booking system. Additionally, for the first time, the programme will extend into the Whitsun half term holiday, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to supporting families year-round.

Starting this month, families are encouraged to reserve their spots online at www.communitysportsfoundation.org.uk/ programmes/play-eat/

On arrival at The Nest, families simply need to check in at reception before enjoying their chosen play activity. A spokesperson said: “The aim is to manage the programme’s popularity effectively and ensure that no child misses out on the opportunity to participate. “The ‘Play & Eat’ sessions continue to offer an enriching experience for children and their families.”

The sessions take place at The Nest, in Holt Road, Horsford, on weekdays from 4pm to 6pm. There is an hour of outdoor play in the Challenge Woods or on the 3G football pitches followed by a nutritious, freshly cooked meal served at 5pm. The cost is £2 per child and parents can dine for an additional £2.

The spokesperson added: “The programme remains open to all, with a focus on providing affordable, healthy meals and active play opportunities for children. Recognising the challenges “This initiative underscores the Foundation’s dedication to supporting the community year-round.”

Last year, Persimmon Homes Anglia made a £5,000 donation to support the Play & Eat scheme.
