Aylsham Bowling Club’s greenkeeper and members are getting everything ready for the opening of the 2026 season.

HARD AT WORK: Barry Barnes and Peter Page are pictured painting the clubhouse.

The green at the Recreation Ground opens on Saturday April 18 at 10am with a coffee morning and a ‘have a go’ session.
Visitors are welcome to attend wearing flat soled shoes or trainers. Bowls will be available to borrow, and members will be on hand to show visitors the ropes.

Free bowling lessons commence on April 27 and then every Monday evening at 6.30pm throughout the season. Other times will also be available.

Club spokesperson Sylvia Hughes said: “If you were enthralled by the curling at the recent Winter Olympics, bowling is the summer equivalent.
“Tactics, steady nerves and knocking the opposition’s bowls out of the way (and sometimes our own bowls in error – oops!) are all part of the game, minus the sliding, brushes and ice!
“The club has a busy programme of league matches, club knockout tournaments, relaxed games and social events.
“Our Charity Tournament taking place in August will be supporting the Aylsham Older People’s Association and the MND Association.
“Our programme of events can be seen in the noticeboard on the fence outside the green or access our new website at https://aylshambowlingclub.org/ and if the gates are open you are cordially invited to come in and take a seat.”

Further information about the club is available from Coach Philip Kingsford on 07785 996783.
