Clive clocks up a million steps
A charity fundraiser who set himself the challenge of walking 11,000 steps every day for a month has taken his millionth step – and smashed his cash target in the process. Clive McCombie, 80, took on the March for March challenge set by Prostate Cancer UK as it is a cause close to his heart. In 2018 he underwent a prostatectomy and he took on the challenge to make people more aware of the condition as well as to raise money for the charity. Having marched his way through March, Clive has carried on walking, inspired by the fact his initial £100 target has risen to £1,030.
Clive, who lives in Hevingham and recently retired as the coordinator of Aylsham Parish Church’s Music and Events programme, logged his millionth step as he walked into the churchyard. He said this seemed a very appropriate place as so many donations and messages of support have come from members of the church congregation.

Clive added: “Part of me is pleased that I have been able to contribute in this way at the age of 80. In the process my fitness has improved and I’m quietly proud, so my motives may not all be altruistic!
“That said, my main satisfaction is that I have been able to help the charity to raise awareness and funds. My modest original target of £100 reflected the many calls from various charities and the financially challenging times we live in. I am so grateful for people’s generosity.”
Clive has extended the challenge until the end of May, so he will continue to log his steps until then. He is also keeping his JustGiving page open if you would still like to make a donation. Visit www.justgiving.com and search for Clive’s Fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK.
