Club helps scouts with hut revamp

A Rotary club has helped the 1st North Walsham Scouts group with refurbishment work at its hut. The Rotary Club of Aylsham and District has several members who live in the North Walsham area and they wanted to help the scouts.

After discussing the needs of the scout group with 1st North Walsham Scouts leader and fundraiser Gill Williams, Aylsham Rotary agreed to fund the purchase of a new fridge/freezer to safely store food for their cooking and barbecues. The hut is well used on most days of the week by five Beaver, Cub and Scout groups.

A Rotary spokesperson said: “Aylsham & District Rotary are very impressed by the group’s determination to provide the very best for the youngsters and delighted to make a contribution to the refurbishments of the hut and wish them every success.”

The fundraising drive to aid North Walsham Scouts’ hut renovation plans has received a near £200 boost after a successful bingo evening. Now it’s eyes down for the next events – an auction and leader Simon Bainbridge’s sponsored leg-waxing on October 23.

“The bingo went well as we raised nearly £200,” said Gill Williams. “The prizes were fantastic, from gardening kits to wine and the old faithful – chocolates!

“We are getting lots of items for the auction at the Black Swan (7.30pm) with various price ranges to suit all budgets. “Simon has nearly reached £100 in sponsorship for his leg waxing which will take place in the interval of the auction and he is talking of live streaming it to show the pain!”

Plans to stage a gang show at the Black Swan in November have been put on hold until next year. “One of our leaders, who is a fantastic artistic asset, is unavailable for personal reasons,” said Gill. “As fundraisers we would find it hard to pull it together so sadly we have had to delay this event. As yet a date hasn’t been decided on, but we will be putting our heads together very soon.”
