A coach who has helped transform Aylsham Tennis Club is moving on to fresh challenges.
Rachael Goldson has been Head Coach at the club for 17 years.
In that time Rachael has presided over the building of four new all-weather courts at the Recreation Ground, seen a huge growth in membership and coached hundreds of players from small children to pensioners.
Now she is standing down to take up a new job working in hospitality at the Blakeney Hotel, though she aims to be back on the courts frequently as a playing member.
Rachael, 39, who said: “It’s been a pleasure to help so many players progress with their tennis and build up confidence.
“I’m very proud and thankful for everything that has been achieved at Aylsham over the years with so many people’s support.  I’ll miss everyone and my teaching.”
Rachael’s efforts were recognised at a special presentation at the club when the coach was given presents to mark her service.
Rachael, who started playing tennis aged nine, was born in Devon but has spent most of her life in and around Aylsham.
Club Chairman Richard Moore said Rachael had been a great advocate for the club.
“We are incredibly grateful to her for all that she has done as a coach and committee member.
“In her time at the club we have seen incredible growth from a group of 30 or so players with unlit grass and shale courts to the present membership of 300 we enjoy today. That is very much testimony to her efforts as someone who always goes above and beyond.”
Team-mate Liz Sillitoe said Rachael had been the backbone of the club.
“Rachael has worked tirelessly on the club committee for many, many years and recruited several colleagues to join her and help run the club.  Many a long evening has been spent debating and agonising over decisions but Rachael has always vigorously represented what was best for the wider membership.”
