Ale lovers can enjoy supping a range of tasty brews while helping to raise money for charity at the Aylsham Social Club Beer Festival.

VENUE: The Aylsham Social Club Beer Festival will take place from May 16-18.

The three-day beer festival will take place at the club, in Hungate Street, from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18. The festival is open to all and the profits raised from the beer sales will be donated to the Royal Papworth Hospital, in Cambridge, which is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital.

Seán Murphy, the club’s vice-chairman, said: “We have chosen this as a charity not only because it’s a very worthwhile one, but also because committee members and club members have used and been helped by them.”

There will be 12 real ales, in a range of styles, at a price of just £3 per pint, and two ciders. There will also be entertainment on all three days of the festival.

The beers will be: Oakham & Fat Cat, Cat on a Hop Tin Roof; Moongazer, Cheeky Jack Special; Grain & Old Chimney, Vienna Gold; Greene King and Uiltje, Bird of Prey; Fengate, Strata; Mr Winter’s, Peach Tea; Elmtree Beers, Snetterton Scary Tree; Wolf Brewery, Granny Wouldn’t Like It; Panther Ales, Beast of the East; Elgood’s Plum Porter; Beeston, Stoatwobbler; and Woodfordes, Mardler’s Mild. Vouchers will be on sale at the bar to pay for the beers available in the back bar. All barrels have been sponsored by local businesses or local people.

As well as enjoying a range of beers, visitors will also be able to enjoy entertainment on all three days of the festival. On the Friday, local singer Shirree will perform a wide range of music from 8.30pm-11.30pm. On the Saturday, the 4D Roadshow (disco music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s) will run from 8.30pm 11.30pm. And on the Sunday, from 2pm 5pm, jazz singer Lizzie Blissett will perform. The event will also feature a raffle and snacks will be available.

The Aylsham Social Club Beer Festival will run from 3pm-midnight on the Friday (May 16); from noon-midnight on the Saturday (May 17); from noon-10pm on the Sunday (May 18). A second beer festival will take place from October 17 to 19.
