Artitsts from Barrington Farm will be staging Life in Colour at the Atrium venue from November 6-18.

The Art Barn at Barrington is an integral part of the day services provided for adults with learning difficulties on the coast at Walcott.

And their work brings them attention from the art world, a world which is now seeing their so-called “outsider art” as a much more regular addition to its more mainstream work.

Artists from Barrington have seen their work exhibited and sold internationally as well as nationally and at a local level.

Senior arts facilitator Holly Sandiford said: “Since the Art Barn started its work with its artists, it has gained a reputation as a centre of excellence and the fact that many of our artists have exhibited their work both at home and abroad shows how this reputation is spreading.

“The latest exhibition picks up on how the artists use colour to express their ideas and imagination and we’re hoping it will include work that will appeal to a wide range of art-lovers.”

All the work will be for sale and there will also be a chance to pick up one of four signature large pieces, which are being auctioned off in sealed bids.

Holly said: “The idea is we stage a silent auction on these pieces. People can either bid when they visit the exhibition, or put in their offers through Facebook and Twitter. After the exhibition closes we will get in touch with the winning bidders.”

The centre is supported by The Barrington Trust, a charity set up to enhance the experiences of users of the day centre and to bring it into the wider community.

The trust is funded by donations and legacies and a recent addition through this was the Cuptiman Centre, a state-of-the-art sensory building, opened recently by North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb.

“The sensory facility has not only been an amazing addition for our own service users but has also attracted other families and groups. It’s open to everyone, who can book slots as and when they want to comes along,” said day centre manager Sarah Yendell. “It’s not just those with learning difficulties who can benefit.”

The exhibition opens on Thursday, November 6, with a preview evening 5-8pm. It runs until November 18 and is open normal Atrium opening hours, 9am-4.30pm weekdays, 9am-1pm Saturdays.
