Norfolk’s first community electric cargo bike scheme has been officially launched in Aylsham.

The bike is stationed outside the Town Hall for easy access and The Porters Arms will host the scheme, providing day-to day support and promoting awareness.

Local business Norfolk Electric Adventures will provide day-to-day maintenance for the bike. The scheme has been delivered by Norfolk County Council’s AtoBetter Team in partnership with social enterprise Peddle My Wheels through its OurBike programme.
The bike has a 50km range, a 100kg front box capacity and can be booked from £5 an hour via the OurBike app.

Elliot Dransfield, owner of The Porters Arms, said: “We’re super excited to be the host of the OurBike cargo bike! It’s a fantastic addition to the town, offering an easy and sustainable transport option for our community.”

Mike Scott, owner of Norfolk Electric Adventures, said: “I’m really proud to be supporting the new OurBike maintenance in Aylsham and to see a project like this bringing real change to local travel habits.
“It’s another great example of how electric bikes can work just as well in rural areas as in cities. I’d love to see more of these bikes introduced across Norfolk in the future — giving even more communities the chance to travel sustainably and enjoy the benefits of electric cycling.”

The initiative has secured funding through Norfolk County Council’s AtoBetter programme via Active Travel England, in addition to that from a local housing developer, Persimmon Homes, to support sustainable transport.

Emma Hughes, Head of Business Development at Peddle My Wheels, said: “We’re delighted to see the Aylsham bike in action. With the support of Active Travel England, Norfolk County Council, and Persimmon Homes, we look forward to seeing local residents embrace this new way of getting around.”

More information about the scheme is available via the OurBike app and at www.ourbike.co.uk
