Community club nets a prestigious award

A new initiative recognising unsung heroes has named Cromer Netball Club as its Community Champions.

Leisure operator Everyone Active, which runs Cromer Sports Centre in partnership with North Norfolk District Council, launched Community Champions to support projects which are tackling local issues and changing lives.
People involved in mentoring, promoting health and wellbeing, supporting inclusivity or leading environmental or cultural projects were encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant was Cromer Netball Club, which provides women and girls with the opportunity to play netball at a friendly or competitive level, in a safe and supportive environment. The club will secure valuable use of the sports hall at Cromer Sports Centre to help them carry out their sessions. And Everyone Active will raise awareness of the club to strengthen connections, encourage civic engagement and foster a culture of giving back.

ON THE BALL: Members of Cromer Netball Club celebrate their award.

Cromer Netball Club chairperson Leah Thornton said: “We are incredibly honoured to be named a Community Champion by Everyone Active. This recognition is a fantastic acknowledgment of the hard work and dedication of everyone at Cromer Netball Club.

“This award celebrates the value we strive to bring to our community. We believe in providing a supportive and inclusive environment where individuals can not only develop their netball skills but also build confidence, forge lasting friendships and benefit from being part of a team.
“Thank you, Everyone Active, for recognising our efforts. We look forward to a continued partnership and to encouraging more members of the community to give netball a go.”

Cromer Netball Club is also eligible to be shortlisted for the annual Everyone Active Champions Awards.

Stuart Jardine, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We are hugely excited to celebrate Cromer Netball Club, a project that makes a real difference in the town. We want to highlight the work of everyday heroes who are changing people’s lives and inspiring others to make a positive impact in their communities. “Cromer Netball Club is the perfect example of this and we are delighted to work more closely with them through the Community Champions scheme.”

Cllr Liz Withington, North Norfolk District Council’s portfolio holder for Community, Leisure and Outreach, said: “Cromer Netball Club embodies the very spirit of teamwork, inclusivity and support that Everyone Active’s Community Champions scheme was created to celebrate. By providing opportunities for women and girls to enjoy sport in a safe and encouraging environment, the club is not only improving health and wellbeing but also strengthening social bonds and inspiring future generations.”
