Consider yourself – a success!
Aylsham High School has celebrated the success of Oliver, its 24th musical production.
This much-loved musical version of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist included well-known songs such as ‘Consider Yourself’, ‘You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two’ and ‘Food, Glorious Food’.

Students from all year groups of the school joined together with staff to form a strong show community of cast and crew and staged four performances, all of which received standing ovations. The students involved were thrilled with the positive feedback they received, while a proud parent said it was “wonderful to see everyone beaming with confidence and joy, those kids will remember this forever”.
Sara Fordham, music teacher, was delighted with students’ performances and felt their singing had “raised the roof”.
Costumes were the responsibility of staff member Jo Phipps, who ensured that the dressing rooms and front of house ran smoothly.
The director, and head of drama at Aylsham High School, Tracy Mitton said: “I was blown away by the whole experience.”
Duncan Spalding, executive headteacher, said: “I absolutely loved the energy and passion that our students brought to this production. It was so clear just how much they enjoyed their performances. The show was fabulous and thoroughly deserved its standing ovation.
“Both cast and crew were superb. It was a privilege also to have our students working with such a wonderful orchestra. I would like to pay tribute to the incredible hard work and dedication of my colleagues Mrs Mitton, Mrs Fordham, and Miss Phipps without whom none of it would have been possible. We are very lucky to have to have such dedicated teachers and support staff helping our students to shine.
“It was also wonderful to see so many people in the audience and the amazing community effort of providing refreshments for the show. Another AHS performing arts triumph.”
Drama at Aylsham High School is studied by students from year 7 and can be chosen as an option for those wishing to continue to GCSE level. Former students, who have taken part in many of the school’s previous productions, have gone on to pursue careers in the theatre.
