Cromer’s New Year’s Day Fireworks committee has announced the return of their annual photography competition to mark the 16th year of the annual display which began in 2000.

After the success of the competition last year, which saw over 100 entries, it is hoped that everyone from artists and community groups to ambitious individuals will enter the competition and get involved in this fabulous event.

The photography competition is open to all photographers aged 17+ and the brief for entrants is ‘Cromer Fireworks 2015’. Photographers are invited to come along to Cromer on New Year’s Day, bring their camera, photograph the event and get creative.

The winner of the competition will have their image turned into the official poster for the 2016 New Years Day Firework event as well as use in other promotional material. Local electrical retailer Hughes Plus, Cromer are sponsoring the event for the third year running and are offering the winner the latest Samsung 40” led TV worth £400.

Simon Morton, Manger of Hughes Plus in Cromer, said “’We are thrilled to once again have the opportunity to support such a spectacular local event as the New Year’s Day Firework display. We felt the prize should reflect this and encourage ‘snappers’ to get snapping and produce some great local images!”

Having just undergone a revamp, the former Bennetts store in Cromer, now features a new suspended mezzanine floor to hold lots more stock in branch. This means customers can shop in branch and, indeed on Hughes’ click’n’collect website facility knowing that the store will almost certainly have the item in branch for one hour collection.

He went on to say , “being a local trading store we are always keen to support projects and events within our local community. All our staff in Cromer are long standing members of the team and are always pleased to offer their expert knowledge in guiding customers through the process of making that all important electrical purchase. Come visit us on the Holt road this festive season.”

Chairman of the Fireworks committee Jim Bond said “the annual New Year’s Day Fireworks have been capturing people’s imagination for 15 years, every year we see hundreds of fabulous photographs of the event in the press and online. We thought it would be great to continue the photography competition to inspire more people and to capture this fantastic event. We are looking for photographs that really capture the spirit of the event.”

This year the committee is also launching a poetry competition for children, details of which will be announced soon.
