Cycles and sails all the way
A keen sailor and cyclist will be hoping for fair winds behind her as she embarks on an epic adventure, cycling across Europe before reaching Horning Sailing Club during its annual Regatta Week.
Club member Jane Varcoe now lives in Wigan but still makes a return to Horning each year for the week.

This year, she is combining her trip with a very special challenge.
To celebrate her 60th birthday, she has set herself the challenge to do 60 things she’s not done before – and one is cycling from London to Paris and watching the last stage of the Tour De France.
Once she’s achieved this, she will continue her ride through Europe, Suffolk and Norfolk to get to Horning for next week’s regatta.
Travelling with eight members of Standish Cycling Club, she will be raising money for the Wigan and Leigh Hospice and the sailing club.
“I’m not sure if anyone has arrived at Horning Week before on a bike from the Tour De France, but it’s certainly a challenge I’m looking forward to, especially seeing everyone in Horning this year,” said Jane.
The route will include going through Antwerp and Rotterdam, catching the ferry from Hook of Holland to Harwich, and cycling through East Anglia to the Broads.
“If we don’t get lost!” added Jane.
Horning Sailing Club Regatta runs from August 4 to 8 on the River Bure.
The event involves boats of all sizes competing in races each day, with lots of other entertainment for the competitors and spectators to enjoy.
