David is making headlines of his own
A former reporter who covered the news in Cromer in the 1980s has returned to the town – this time in his imagination.
David Weir worked for the Eastern Daily Press for several years before moving to the House of Commons, where he worked as the clerk to various government committees, advising MPs from all parties on constitutional issues and parliamentary procedures.
He has used his experience from both those fields to write his first novel – The Honourable Member for Murder, featuring Cromer and other local locations.

“The hero, Max, heads to Cromer to track down a man who should be dead but has just been seen alive out on Cromer Pier,” said David.
The book, a comedy crime story featuring two researchers for a hopeless MP who solve crimes for him when they’re not doing all his other work, is the first of what David hopes will be a trilogy.
Born and brought up in Edinburgh, David was a newspaper reporter for more than a decade, working in Fife, Hampshire and London as well as Norwich and Cromer.
While this is his first novel, he is already a successful playwright.
“I’ve had plays performed all over the UK and, randomly, in Belgium, Switzerland, Australia and Canada, as well as winning a few awards,” he said.
The Honourable Member for Murder is now on sale.
