Eaton Park is one of the very best parks in the UK – and that’s official.

It has been given the prestigious accolade of a Green Flag Award by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

The honour of flying a Green Flag recognises the park as a space that boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

It is among a record-breaking 1,476 parks and green spaces that will today receive the award.

Councillor Keith Driver, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and community safety, said: “I’m delighted that Eaton Park has won its first ever Green Flag Award.

“It’s thanks to the hard work and dedication of colleagues from the city council, the Friends of Eaton Park and NorwichNorse that we can proudly fly this flag, showing everyone that our park is among the highest quality spaces in the UK.”

Eaton Park lies in the south-west of Norwich on South Park Avenue. It is an 80-acre site laid out as a formal public park with extensive sports facilities, including bowling greens, tennis courts, football and cricket pitches; as well as a skate park.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “We are delighted to announce yet another record-breaking year for Green Flag Award parks and green spaces.

“A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for all the parks managers, staff and volunteers who, through their dedication and hard work, have helped to create these fantastic places for everyone to enjoy.

“Quality green spaces are a vital resource for communities and that is why it is so significant that we have given out more awards than ever before.”
