England amateur golfer Nellie Ong managed to find time in her busy summer schedule to return to Eaton Golf Club to talk to members about her stellar year on the international circuit.

Having played in the US Women’s Open and represented GB and Ireland in the Curtis Cup, the 20-year-old from Norwich was in the UK for her summer break from Ohio State University. She booked a lesson with her putting coach, Eaton professional Chase Davis, and kindly stayed on for a Q & A session with over 50 members.

Nellie was welcomed by Club Captain Maurice Meyer who then handed over to Ladies Captain Liz Edwards to host the evening.

Nellie shared her joy on qualifying for the US Open and selection for the Curtis Cup team, being starstruck in the locker room and the luxury of complimentary manicures and hair styling. Nellie also talked of the pressure of first tee nerves, handling disappointment and addressing weaknesses with hours of practice. She fielded questions from the audience about her degree course in marketing, team rivalries and the importance of parental support.

Members of Eaton Golf Club follow Nellie’s career closely, having seen her progress over the past 10 years from junior to England team player, so Liz Edwards was delighted she accepted the invitation to return. “In the past 12 months Nellie has experienced golf at the highest levels, performed with brilliance on the university circuit and matured into a confident, yet unassuming young woman. We are thrilled for her and incredibly proud that she still calls Eaton home,” she said. Nellie has now returned to Ohio to continue her studies and compete in the autumn tournaments. Her sights are set on helping her team to further success and qualifying for the Vagliano Trophy between GB and Ireland and the Continent of Europe next year.
