More people than ever before are now able to enter the Marriotts Way 10k which is on Sunday, October 13, 2013 as numbers have been increased to 300 runners taking part in two waves.

The race started five years ago with 100 runners taking part and has since tripled in size and popularity with the race finishing in Aylsham’s market place. This year the race will be sponsored by the Whitwell and Reepham Railway for the fifth time and supported by Sportlink and McCarthys.

“We are really excited to be hosting the Marriott’s 10k again this year,” said councillor Claudette Bannock, sports champion at Broadland District Council. “It is a fantastic opportunity for the runners in the region to take part in a 10k race through a scenic multi-terrain route and now there are even more chances to run with the new two wave start at 11am and 11.15am.”

There is also the chance to enter a corporate team, which for the third year invites businesses to enter teams of four people to compete against other businesses for the Marriott’s 10k Corporate Challenge Trophy.  Last year’s winners, Lakeside Foods, were thrilled to have won for the second time and are looking forward to see which businesses will be challenging them this year.

Hayley Toleman from Lakeside Foods said: “As a team we have enjoyed taking part in the Marriott’s way 10k for the past two years. It is a great corporate event as it enables us to train together and work with people that we wouldn’t interact with on a daily basis. The event is very well organised, great fun and enables people to come along and support. We look forward to taking part again this year.”

Broadland District Council sports development officer Maria Alborough said: “The Marriott’s 10k is becoming one of the most sought after races in the area, with places selling out well in advance of the race taking place.”
