Explore your creative side at town venue
From singing and acting classes for the community to solving a live murder mystery, New Stages is inviting the community to take part both on stage and in the audience this spring.
Based at the Black Swan Theatre, New Stages runs a growing programme of creative opportunities for all ages, alongside an exciting season of performances and events.
Local people are being encouraged to build confidence, make friends and explore their creativity by joining one of New Stages’ weekly groups.
These include North Walsham People’s Choir, a friendly, informal singing group open to all abilities on a Tuesday at 7pm; North Norfolk Youth Theatre, which provides energetic drama sessions for young people also on Tuesdays; and adult acting classes with rehearsals for shows.
Joseph Ballard, director of New Stages, said: “Our sessions are about far more than learning lines or songs – they’re about confidence, wellbeing and creating a real sense of community. We want everyone to feel they can come through the door and take part.”

Alongside its participation programme, the theatre is hosting two special events this month. On Wednesday March 11 at 6.30pm, there will be a screening of National Theatre Live: The Audience – an acclaimed production starring Helen Mirren.
Murder at the Picturehouse takes over the theatre on Saturday March 28. This is an interactive murder mystery where the audience must follow clues, question suspects and solve the crime. Joseph said: “We’re proud to bring a mix of high-quality screenings and original live events to North Walsham.
“Whether you want to be on stage, in the choir, or solving a mystery from your seat, there’s something for everyone.”
