A fantastic line-up of football, live music and street food has been organised to raise money in memory of a young North Walsham boy.

Remy’s Festival of Football will take place over four days at North Walsham Town Football Club.

It is an expansion of the hugely successful Remy’s Game event, which has raised more than £14,000 since it was first held in 2023. It was launched in memory of Remy Johnson, a seven-year-old youth team player at North Walsham, who died from complications after heart surgery at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2022. Remy’s family started Remy’s Foundation, which has raised more than £100,000 for the hospital.

REMEMBERED: Remy Johnson.

The first part of Remy’s Festival of Football will take place over the weekend of June 7 and 8 with a youth football tournament at North Walsham FC’s Greens Road home. More than 50 teams will take part and both days will run from around 9am to late afternoon, with food and drink available. On Friday, June 13, there will be a street food and music festival, with performances from three acts – Leon Mallett, Adam Darricott, and Messijoes.

Tickets for this event cost £5 and people are asked to buy them in advance. Tickets will also be available on the door, but organisers would like to have an idea how many people will be attending. Gates will open at 5.30pm with the music starting at 6.30pm.

Saturday, June 14, will see Remy’s Game, with the charity football match followed by music from the Counterfeit Brits, Jack Daniel and DJ Nicky Wood. Street food will be served again. Gates will open at 1pm and the match will take place at 2pm, followed by the music. Entry on the Saturday will be free but collections for Remy’s Foundation will take place.

One of the event’s organisers, Alex Robertson, said Remy’s match would feature some “big names” with the line-ups being revealed closer to the event.

Speaking about Remy’s Festival of Football, Alex added: “It’s getting bigger and bigger each year. In the first year we raised £10,000 and this still blows me away. “When we saw the amount of money we raised, we thought we’ve got to do it again. We’ve already started planning for next year.” The event’s main sponsors are Minors & Brady estate agents, and Norfolk Mortgages. A number of other sponsors have signed up and more would be welcomed.
