Former Sea King pilot giving fundraising talk
Former Sea King pilot Jim Bellingall is giving an illustrated talk about his search and rescue experiences in aid of north Norfolk-based Hospice Ethiopia UK.
It is taking place at the Aldborough Church Room in north Norfolk on October 24 at 2.45pm (the talk starts at 3pm).
In 1953, the first East Anglian Search and Rescue helicopters were introduced at RAF Horsham St Faith, now Norwich Airport, before transferring to RAF Coltishall in 1963.
The bright yellow helicopters have been involved with many rescues of both military and civilian personnel, sometimes in the most challenging of conditions.
Jim, from Aylsham, will be describing some of their daring missions and will give the audience a real insight into the characters and bravery of the personnel who risk their lives to save others.
Sue Mumford, chair of Hospice Ethiopia UK, said: “Huge thanks to Jim for agreeing to give his talk. I know it’s going to be absolutely riveting! Fundraisers like this are the lifeblood of our charity, which raises funds for desperate people in Ethiopia.”
