Sheringham Little Theatre’s pantomime playwright Killian Donnelly is to perform at the Oscar ceremony in Hollywood.

The news comes as Killian has announced he will also pen Snow White, next year’s festive offering at the North Norfolk venue.

“This is all extremely exciting for me,” said musical star Killian, who has a role in the Oscar-nominated Les Misérables movie and will be on stage at the Oscars on February 24.

“The film has eight nominations and six of us were invited to go over to LA to perform one of the big numbers, One Day More, at the ceremony. It has all happened very quickly but it will be a truly amazing experience.”

Les Misérables opened in January, and stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter. Killian, who plays Combeferre, spent two months filming scenes and appears alongside Jackman and Crowe.

“I had to get into a fight with Russell Crowe’s character, which was great fun,” he recalled.

However, Killian, 28, who is currently starring in Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace Theatre, also has a passion for panto and wrote Jack and the Beanstalk, last year’s Christmas show at the 180-seat Sheringham Little Theatre.

His relationship with the venue began after theatre director Debbie Thompson’s 14 year-old daughter Katie contacted him via Twitter. Katie, a pupil at Sheringham High, had been following him on Twitter after seeing him star as Raoul in hit musical Phantom of the Opera.

“I was so pleased to be asked to be involved. It was great working with everyone at Sheringham and, when I went along to one of the performances, I was overwhelmed. I absolutely love panto but watching Jack and the Beanstalk at the Little Theatre was like being in a fairytale myself,” he admitted.

“I adore the theatre – it is so intimate and all the children watching the show were hooked. It was just incredible.”

Following the success of Jack and the Beanstalk, Killian is now looking forward to throwing his all into Snow White, which will open in December this year.

“This is one of the classic pantos that is always magical but we have some really special touches in mind that will make it even more exciting. I can’t wait to get started,” he said.

For now, however, Killian is focusing on Les Misérables, the Oscars and Hollywood.

“It will be very different from everything I do in the UK, including my work with the Sheringham Little Theatre.

“But that is what I enjoy – being involved in everything from big productions in huge theatres to smaller shows, like the Sheringham pantomime, which capture the imagination just as much.”
