Aylsham’s popular annual street party is to return earlier than usual to allow the people of the town to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

This year’s event, titled the 80th VE Day Commemoration Street Party, will take place in Market Place from noon to 5pm on Sunday, May 11. Donna Butcher, Office and Events Manager at Aylsham Town Council, said: “Forties attire is optional but it would be lovely to see as many people as possible dressed up for the occasion.”

There will also be live music from Miss Kitty Collins, a 1940s tribute singer, and Agent Orange, a rock and pop covers band. Tables must be booked in advance by emailing info@aylsham-tc.gov.uk and people are asked to bring their own food and drink. A maximum of 650 people can attend, and this is a free event funded by the Town Council’s events committee.

Market Place and Red Lion Street will be closed from 7am and re-open at about 7pm on the day, so no overnight parking will be allowed in the Market Place on Saturday, May 10. Buses will be re-routed down Burgh Road, therefore the bus stops on Dunkirk, Gashouse Hill and the Market Place will not be serviced during these times. The nearest stops will be Burgh Road and Tesco.
