Golfers help homeless charity
The outgoing lady captain at Sprowston Manor golf club has ended her year with a £1,300 donation to a homeless charity.
Hazel O’Neill chose St Martins as her cause for the year, organising events and donations throughout her presidency.
“We raised the money with raffles after our competitions and I asked all the ladies to bring in any spare gifts or, when shopping, to add toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant,” she said. “I only moved to Norwich in the past five years and I was in the city and saw quite a few homeless people on a very cold day. No one deserves to sleep outside nowadays, so I decided to have it as my local charity.
“St Martins do a great job and deserve all the support we can give them.”
She praised her fellow golfers, who kept the donations box filled with toiletries and bedding.
“They brought things in most weeks.”
