Cricketers are bowling up to build on their best ever season – and seeking to catch new recruits to join in the fun.
Last season, the historic Aylsham St Giles club, which has been playing on the town Recreation Ground for more than 100 years, pulled off a hat-trick of league triumphs.
The first team was promoted from division six to five in its first ever season in the Norfolk Alliance. The second string were also promoted, from Norfolk League division three to two, and the women’s team won their softball league.
The club also pulled off a shock underdog win in the Norfolk T20 final beating Alliance Premier team Downham Stow.

HOWZAT? The team who won the Norfolk T20 trophy

Players are already limbering up in the nets for the start of the new 2023 season, and the club is looking to add a third team which will begin the Norfolk League fourth division north.
Club spokesman Sean Cannon said: “The club has been going from strength to strength, with membership reaching 100. Last season we had to leave a few players out, so we need to recruit a few more to start a new team.
“We are also continuing with our youth sessions on Wednesday evenings at the Rec which last year attracted up to 80 youngsters. And we are looking to introduce some of them, and our women, into the league teams.

“Our focus is on being a community and family-orientated club, not just having a successful first team,” added Sean.
He said the club’s success was down to having an active and organised committee, plus support from the Recreation Ground committee in providing improved facilities – including a wicket which was now one of the best in the league, an electronic scoreboard and training facilities.
The new third team will play its home games at Coltishall. And as it expands the club is also seeking new sponsors to support, and be part of, its continuing success story.
