The family of Aylsham child Hugo Porcher Smith have been awarded a post-treatment holiday grant from SuperJosh’s charity, the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity.

Hugo, who is 5 years old, was diagnosed with an optic nerve glioma in October 2013. Until then, he was a normal happy boy. He now finds it difficult to understand when he can’t do the things his friends do. Hugo has been especially upset and frustrated that, due to the restrictions caused by his treatment, he can’t attend school on a regular basis, go swimming or play with sand.

The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity was set up to support families just like Hugo’s. He was only 3 years old when he started his chemotherapy. His mum Elena has had to give up working to be Hugo’s carer, and as with many other families in similar circumstances, finances have become tight.

Hugo will finish his chemotherapy treatment in June and thanks to the grant from Josh’ charity, the family will be enjoying a beach holiday when his treatment is complete.

Hugo’s Dad, Edward said “The news we had last week, that with the generosity of Joshua’s charity, we can have a dream beach holiday at the end of Hugo’s treatment, has given us all a tremendous boost. It’s something really special to look forward to and we will be able to make happy memories like a normal family.”

“We want to express our gratitude to the Charity for the grant you have offered to us in Joshua’s name. Financially a holiday is something we have been unable to fund ourselves since Elena had to give up work. We will make sure we have a wonderful time – Thank you!”

Dawn Fidler said “Families facing situations like Hugo’s and like ours are more common than you would ever dread to think. We are delighted to have been able to offer them this chance of a holiday at the end of Hugo’s treatment and hope that they have the most amazing time!
