The first of the Broadland District Council Community Hero nominations has gone to Aylsham’s Rev Jack Branford.

As well as streaming church services online and ministering to the folk of the town during the restrictions, he has also been delivering food and medicine to those in need and working tirelessly to make sure everyone is looked after.

And his actions have not gone unnoticed, with many nominations from local people who thought he deserved a pat on the back.

A bashful Jack said he wanted to thank everyone who voted, adding: “It was so kind of you all.

“All of the lovely things happening in Aylsham over the past few weeks have been an incredible community effort involving so many people and organisations. Any recognition should go to the great community of Aylsham.”

Rev Jack Branford is the first Broadland Community Hero.

He may be modest about his achievements, but his parishioners were not slow in coming forward on social media to say how well he had done and how pleased they were to see his work being honoured in this way.

The Broadland Covid-19 Community Heroes awards were launched to acknowledge people who have gone the extra mile and played a vital role in supporting the local community. It hopes to celebrate the community spirit across Broadland and provide an opportunity to thank those who have given up their time for others.

If you have someone you would like to nominate, you can do it through the Broadland District Council Facebook page and social media channels using the hashtag #BroadlandHeroes and by visiting www.broadland.gov.uk/covidheroes.
