There’s echoes of Swallows and Amazons and an old-fashioned feel to Phil Johnson’s first foray into the world of children’s books, being launched today.
And it’s exactly the way he envisaged his story as it first took root in his mind when his own children were small.
But it wasn’t until now, nearly 20 years later aged 58, that his work has come to fruition with the launch of The Little Blue Book and the Secret of the Broads.
“The former BBC and Anglia reporter and producer said: “The first time I had the idea for the book was when my boys were about five and seven. I wanted to write but I was far too busy at the time being a parent and working full time.
The idea lurked in the back of his mind until the children flew the nest and, as a freelance journalist, he was able to put some of his work on hold to get his thoughts down on paper.

The book is being laucnhed today at Whitlingham Lake, Trowse, with characters from the story taking centre stage, including the book’s hero Able Sea Bear and the baddie, evil Pincher Pete.
Phil’s aim is to encourage youngsters out of the house and to enjoy seeing what the outdoors has to offer, whether on board a boat, on foot or by cycle. And he’s confident children will enjoy the journey.

The full interview with Phil is in several of our magzines his month.

He's our hero!
