Lidl reveals proposals for new Aylsham store
Lidl has revealed plans to build a new store in Aylsham, creating up to 40 jobs.
The proposed site for the major development is land between Henry Page Road, the A140 Norwich Road and Hungate Lane.
Before submitting the proposals to Broadland District Council, Lidl is asking for feedback from Aylsham residents. A drop-in consultation event will take place at Aylsham Town Hall on Tuesday March 10, from 4pm-7pm. A leaflet including a freepost feedback survey is also being distributed to neighbours and people can visit the project website – aylsham.newsite.lidl.co.uk – for further information and to have their say.
Andrew Hodgkinson, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, said: “We are pleased to reveal our plans to deliver a much-needed discount supermarket to Aylsham. This would create high quality jobs for local people and greatly improve local shopping choice.
“We have worked carefully to shape plans that respond to the site’s surroundings, including proposals for landscaping and biodiversity enhancements. We encourage residents to have their say at our drop-in event, via our feedback form, or the website.”

Lidl said the proposals represented a multi-million pound investment and a statement added: “The modern food store would also feature the discounter’s popular in-store bakery and the much-loved Middle of Lidl.
“Outside, there’ll be plenty of customer parking with dedicated accessible and parent-and-child spaces. Twelves electric vehicle charging points will be installed with capacity to provide additional chargers in the future. Covered cycle parking would also be available.
“Vehicular access is proposed from Henry Page Road, together with pedestrian and cycle links to support a range of travel options.
“The plans seek to retain existing trees where possible and introduce new landscaping, including additional tree and shrub planting. A 0.73-acre area is proposed for biodiversity enhancements. In line with Lidl GB’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050, the building would incorporate energy-efficient measures such as heat recovery systems and air source heat pumps. Solar panels on the roof would also generate around 20% of the store’s electricity requirements.”
