The Lighthouse Charity Trust is one of the five charities in the running for a £5,000 community grant from Tesco’s Helping Hand scheme.

The folk at Lighthouse are now appealing for locals to drop into Lighthouse Café, to see what the centre has to offer, and to vote for them in the poll.

The Lighthouse Trust is affiliated to the Lighthouse Community Church, which celebrated its first birthday on September 21 with a special gift day and barbecue. The celebration was simply called ONE, with the ONE theme running throughout the morning meeting.

A free community barbecue followed, attended by around 150 people in Lighthouse grounds. There were also ONE deals in Lighthouse Café each day that week.

The Lighthouse Charity Trust works for the social, educational and general well-being of all age groups and backgrounds, helping seniors, the lonely and the vulnerable.

One of the fastest growing aspects of their work is with children and young people. The group is now the largest provider of child and youth activities in the Sheringham district.

The grant would give the trust the chance to buy new equipment and games to make the clubs they run even more exciting and engaging for local people. The trust is expanding quickly so this competition is a timely opportunity for them.

“This day of celebration has rounded off an amazing year for Lighthouse,” said Pastor Bryan Pickard. “We have made considerable advances in the ways we are able to serve our local community, and the equipment we are seeking to buy with this funding will enable us extend this even further.”

The Tesco Sheringham Community Fund was set up in 2012 to accompany the launch of Tesco’s new store in the town.

So far, the fund has given out more than £30,000 to local community groups and charities in the Sheringham area.

People are able to vote using forms available in the Sheringham Tesco store, and also in local papers but this closes on Friday, October 24.
