Macey’s visits are a treat
Badgers Wood Care Home residents were thrilled to receive a visit from their long-standing Junior Volunteer, Macey Dunmow, to celebrate Halloween.
Macey has been visiting the home in Drayton with her mum, Gemma, for the past six years.

As well as bringing a lot of joy, her visits have led to some longstanding friendships.
Having lovingly prepared a Halloween goodie bag for each resident, the pair hand-delivered every bag, having a chat with everyone as they did so.
Resident Maurice Hovells said: “Although I can’t see very well now it was so lovely to hear Macey’s voice, and the sweets were a really thoughtful idea.
“I loved talking to Macey – it really made my day.”
And Ted Danby added: “What a kind young lady do to this for us.
“We are so lucky to have Macey do nice things like this for us, and spend her time chatting with oldies like me!”
She has recently accepted a more formalised role as a Junior Helper, wearing a uniform when attending more structured events.
Manager Anne Riches said that Macey added “a terrific amount of value to
this residential care setting, with her empathetic, caring and inspiring approach to person-centred care”.
And she said others like her would be more than welcome to go along to the home to spend quality time with the residents while boosting their own skills.
“Volunteership is a rare but hugely valued commodity within the care sector,” Anne said.
“Young talent like Macey is hugely appreciated.
“We would like to hear from anyone seeking a talent pathway, volunteership or other work experience.
“[We] are wholly invested in supporting the wider community and encouraging young people into the care sector.”
