People in Cromer will soon be able to pop out for a Big Mac after North Norfolk District Council approved a proposal for a 140-seat restaurant with a drive-through on the edge of the town.

An artist’s impression of how the restaurant will look.

The much discussed McDonald’s restaurant, which will be built on what is now part of the Co-op’s car park, off Holt Road, will employ 30 full-time staff and 35 part-timers and will open from 5am until midnight every day.

A pedestrian crossing and refuge will be built on Holt Road and access to the restaurant will be from Middlebrook Way.

There had been some objections to the proposals – mainly fears about traffic, noise, and increased littering – but these were resolved through redesigning the plans, which were given the green light by officers using delegated powers.
