More funding for youth programme
The Generation Green project, which first ran from 2021 until 2023, has secured a second round of funding.
Building on its successful delivery of educational activities for young people in the Broads, this new Defra funding will help even more young people to become inspired by the Broads.
The first phase gave 100,000 young people the opportunity to connect with nature in protected areas throughout the UK, working with young people who don’t normally get the chance to enjoy such an opportunity.
Around 550 youngsters got to experience the Broads through hands-on learning outdoors, including 12 residential visits. They also learned about wildlife, the Broads’ mills, grazing marshes and how the landscape is shaped by people.

The second project phase will be called Generation Green 2: A Night Under the Stars, and will help more than 25,000 young people living in England’s most socially disadvantaged areas to connect with nature and rural life through nights outdoors.
The Broads Authority’s education team expects the funding to support 300 residential visits, 300 discovery days and 60 “nights under the stars” at various locations around the Broads.
The project will be running until March next year.
