Volunteers have been working hard to create two beautiful new public green spaces in Cringleford for the whole community to enjoy.
Newfound Community Orchard was planted off Woolhouse Way, within the new housing development, and a Jubilee Garden is taking shape on Lobelia Lane, near Dragonfly Lane.

The community orchard was planned by Cringleford Parish Council chairman Trevor Wang, with varieties of fruit trees bred by the John Innes Centre.

Planting was carried out with staff from Barratt David Wilson Homes and volunteers from The Conservation Volunteers (TCV).
Mark Webster, TCV Project Officer, said: “We may be getting muddy, but we are really enjoying helping to plant these 70 trees.
“It is lovely to think that in years to come they will be providing free fruit for local people, as well as this being a beautiful area just to relax in.”

The day after planting the orchard, TCV volunteers were back to plant beech hedges and pleached holm oak trees at the Lobelia Lane garden.
Mark added: “As they grow, the trees will provide shade on a sunny day and this small space is expected to become a very welcome area for reflection and contemplation.”

The orchard trees were paid for by the Trustees of the John Innes Foundation and the Jubilee Garden has been funded by a National Lottery Community Grant to the parish council.

The parish Council is also currently considering a report from TCV on potential habitat improvements which might be made at the Community Woodlands behind the Willow Centre.
