A North Walsham High School student footballer has been selected for England.  13 year-old Lauren Hemp has been included in the U15s squad to face Holland on  30th May.  She is one of a 20-strong squad picked for the fixture.

Lauren, whose ambition is to play for the senior England Ladies team when she is older, attended a four-day England training camp in February at the National Football Centre at St George’s Park near Burton-upon-Trent and a second training camp during the Easter holidays at Lilleshall National Sports Centre – and has clearly impressed selectors enough to be picked for the match-day squad.

She will spend five days in Amsterdam being coached by Women’s National U15s coach Kay Cossington, before travelling to Huizen for the match, which takes place at the HSV De Zuidvogels Stadium.

Left midfielder Lauren has been playing football since she was seven years old, and has been part of the Centre of Excellence at Norwich City Football Club since she was nine.  She has several U15s fixtures for Norwich under her belt, against opposition such as Chelsea and Arsenal.

She has already been on three two-day FA Elite Performance Camps in Warwickshire, as well as undertaking rigorous fitness tests at Aston Villa.

North Walsham High School Head of PE Paul Bradshaw said, “To be selected to play for your country is the dream of every footballer, but very few actually realise it.  It is testament to Lauren’s natural talent and her hard work and dedication that she has been selected – one of the youngest members of the U15s squad.

“This is the achievement of her ambition to play for England.  However, she will be viewing this as an important stepping-stone to reaching her ultimate goal, which is to play for the national senior ladies team.”
