North Walsham High School is enjoying a new year boost after earning a Good verdict from Ofsted inspectors – being described as a place where pupils thrive.
Headteacher James Gosden, who took the helm in September 2020, after a 2019 Requires Improvement Ofsted rating, was delighted at the turnaround.

“Everyone involved in the school including staff, pupils and our local families should all be incredibly proud,” he said.
“Over the past three and-a-half years everyone has worked tremendously hard to make the school successful and the report is a clear testament to this hard work.”
Inspectors also assessed the leadership and management as Outstanding and commented that “pupils are proud to be members of this flourishing school community.”
Mr Gosden added: “To gain Outstanding for leadership and management is a wonderful testament to the hard work put in by everyone to continually look to improve and ensure North Walsham High School is an excellent school.
“I am exceptionally proud that our GCSE outcomes are better than national and regional averages and for Ofsted to recognise the high-quality provision across all elements of the school and for these to be praised. Particularly praised were, the high standards we have for behaviour, that for staff our ‘ongoing training is high quality and carefully matched to staff’s needs’ and that students ‘benefit from rich and varied experiences’ including sports clubs and the school production.
“We have so much to be proud of as residents of North Walsham, including great primary schools, nurseries and recreation opportunities. It is wonderful to know now that our town can be incredibly proud of its secondary school.”
North Walsham High is part of the Enrich Learning Trust and its CEO Russell Boulton said: “It takes a community of people working together to achieve such a transformational change in a school and I would like to thank all pupils, parents, governors and Trustees together with the local community for their part in this wonderful outcome. I would also like to recognise the exceptional leaders and teaching staff at the school whose efforts have been rightly recognised in the report.”
